The French Football Federation has not approved the publication of an interview about homophobia with the participation of Hugo Lloris.


This was told by Joann Lemaire, the first French openly gay football player who played at a semi-professional level. He is currently President of the Foot Ensemble, which fights against discrimination against LGBT+ people in football.


In an interview with Arret sur images, Lemaire said that he, along with one of the journalists, convinced the French Football Federation (FFF) to create a video against homophobia. It was aimed at raising awareness of this issue among young players and coaches. However, when they arrived at the base of the French national team, they found that only Hugo Lloris, Jules Kundet and Jonathan Kloss would be filming the video.


Lemaire said that the answers of Kunde and Kloss on this topic were acceptable, but the words of Lloris were not. Lemaire said he asked the French captain about homophobic slurs from fans in the stands, and Lloris replied that it was part of the folklore and language of football. This greatly disappointed Lemaire.


This video was at the disposal of the editors of Arret sur images. Lloris reportedly initially said he was against all forms of discrimination and said that homophobia has no place in society. Then he responded with a laugh to a question about homophobic chants in football, saying: Fans who tease and insult you are part of the game. This is a push that can be used as additional motivation. You want to get over it.


Lemaire said that he sent this video to FFF and received a response six months later. Attached was a 5-minute video with the answers of Kunde and Kloss, as well as those words of Lloris, which were rated as not so bad.


Despite this, the video never came out. Lemaire believes that the organization had no intention of releasing it.
